accessibility

Improved accessibility score by 22% in 6 months

Challenge

In an effort to make its digital experiences more accessible, the Universtiy of Chicago established the Center for Digital Accessibility (CDA) in late 2019. The CDA soon launched two accessibility audits, and the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy was an early adopter of both audits. The audits revealed a number of critical issues on the Harris School’s website, resulting in a 64% score in Siteimprove. The Harris School was given six months to address the critical issues.

Solution

Collaborating with a UX colleague and a developer, Caleb helped address accessibility issues related to writing, design, and navigation. Caleb drafted alt text, built wireframes to address design issues, and worked closely with the developer to update the code.
